Espanyol fullback Steve Finnan is preparing to return to the Premiership.

The Times says Joe Kinnear, the Newcastle United manager, is hoping to hijack Finnan's proposed £1.3 million move from Espanyol to Hull City.

The 32-year-old Ireland full back had a medical at the KC Stadium on Thursday, but Newcastle have stepped in after failing to sign Lucas Neill from West Ham.
