Newcastle United aim to strike a deal with Liverpool for striker Andy Carroll for £17 million. The Mirror says Toon have told Liverpool they want the striker back at the club, and will take him on loan for a year with the promise of a permanent deal.
Carroll can go out on loan from Anfield after the arrival of new boss Brendan Rodgers who wants the side to play his style of football.
And the Liverpool owners are backing their manager's judgement - although Newcastle must commit to a permanent £17 million transfer as part of the deal.
