Newcastle United academy coach Joe Joyce says the priority will always be to get Geordies through the system.
United may have Matty Pattison (South Africa), David Edgar (Canada), Frank Danquah (Holland), James Troisi (Australia), Tim Krul (Holland) and Kazenga LuaLua (Congo) all emerging from their second string, but Joyce re-iterated their aim and underlined the fact that incoming overseas players can enhance the performances of Tyneside youngsters.
"But we have also had some overseas youngsters come through as well.
"We have had Matty Pattison from the age of 14 and Frank Danquah from the age of 15, as well as Kazenga LuaLua, who now holds a British passport which makes him eligible for England.
"The policy is to find and develop the best local talent, but having foreign players here can improve the quality of the local lads. In one way it raises the bar for them and increases the competition.
"We know that clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea have recruited from overseas, too, and every big club will do that.
"But our aim is to find the best local talent."
