New Zealand youngster Howieson given Burnley chance

New Zealand international Cameron Howieson has signed a two-year scholarship at ChampionshipBurnley. The attacking midfielder, who arrives from the Mosgiel club in New Zealand, helped the All Whites reach the last 16 of this summer's Under-17 World Cup finals in Mexico.

Director of youth Martin Dobson told the club's official website: "We are always looking and if there is a recommendation then we will pursue it.

"We are trying to get talented young players in. Obviously the north west is a very competitive area and we are prepared to spread the net wide.

"Cameron came in at the end of last season and had a couple of training sessions with the youth team. We liked the look of him and we wanted to take it further so we offered him a scholarship."
