New Zealand midfielder has thanked Scottish club Motherwell for giving him a loan deal so he could keep playing as he prepared for the World Cup.
The 23-year old Wellington-born McGlinchey joined Motherwell on loan from A-League club Central Coast Mariners in February to keep fit ahead of South Africa and said it was the move that helped get him a gig in the All Whites' final 23.
"Joining Motherwell was what I needed otherwise I would have been sat in Australia not doing much," he said.
"I was training under two good managers in Craig Brown and Archie Knox."
