New Zealand Government pledge money to World Cup plight
The New Zealand Government will pledge $300,000 to the All Whites’ World Cup campaign.
In a show of solidarity between the Government and New Zealand Football (NZF), Prime Minister John Key announced the funding this afternoon.
“New Zealand's participation in the World Cup has the potential to generate significant flow-on benefits for New Zealand from both increased participation in football domestically and promotion of New Zealand internationally," Mr Key said.
The money will allow the All Whites to fund a temporary media manager as well as hold clinic and revamp the football association’s website - http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/
Mr Key also heaped praise on New Zealand’s top football club, Wellington Phoenix, who were knocked out of the A-League finals by Sydney FC on the weekend.
“Despite their loss to Sydney at the weekend I think it's fair to say that all New Zealanders will be proud of how far they got in the competition this year," Mr Key added.
