New Zealand beaten by New Caledonia in OFC Nations Cup

New Zealand's hopes of winning the 2012 Oceania Football Confederations Cup have been dashed after they were beaten by New Caledonia on Friday.

The tournament favourites were humbled 2-0 by the world's 155th-ranked in Honiara, missing the chance to ensure straight qualification to the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Bertrand Kai gave New Caledonia the lead on the hour-mark when he got clear of two All Whites markers before beating goalkeeper Jake Gleeson before John Gope-Fenepej doubled the advantage in injury-time with a neat finish to send Alain Moizan's charges into the final.

Les Cagous will now face Tahiti in the final on Sunday, June 10 whilst New Zealand face hosts Solomon Islands in the third-place play-off earlier that day.
