New York Red Bulls caretaker coach Richie Williams has been linked with the vacant position at DC United.
Following the resignation of Tom Soehn from United's top job, Williams, who served the club as a player in the late 1990s and early 2000s, has been touted as a potential candidate.
Williams took over from Juan Carlos Osorio at New York for the final eight matches of the 2009 season and did a brilliant job, gaining more points than Osorio did for the season in far fewer matches.
Red Bulls general manager Erik Stover is happy to put Williams forward as a candidate at his club but says the decision ultimately lies with sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer.
The fact DC are likely to put Williams on a shortlist may make the Red Bulls act quickly to secure him or be prepared to let him go to Washington.
