New York Red Bulls hoping to bring in new keeper within days

New York Red Bulls general manager Erik Soler says the club is desperate to bring in a new goalkeeper following recent errors from their current two.

Bouna Coundoul and Greg Sutton have made fundamental mistakes in recent times, conceding cheap goals and costing the Red Bulls the Eastern Conference lead, and Soler is hoping to bring in reinforcements as soon as possible.

"We hope to have a goalkeeper training with us in a couple weeks time. Then I'll see what (else) I can work on then. First things first,'' Soler told the NY Post.

"At the moment I'm focusing on the goalkeepers, so I'm hoping we can do something within the next days.''

And head coach Hans Backe added to the keeping woes saying that it would be nice to see his team keep a clean sheet.

"We're No. 1 scoring goals all over the U.S.; that's not a bad sign. I would like to have a clean sheet; that would be more interesting,'' Backe said.

"Of course it's not the ideal situation. No one wants to as a coach change goalies every second game. We've been a little bit unlucky the last four games; we'll see how we handle that and what comes up. But it's not the ideal situation.''
