New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe has targeted the 2011 MLS Cup for the club.

The Swedish tactician told Offside magazine that he believes he can take the Red Bulls, who had the worst record in MLS last season, to champions in just a matter of two years.

"I do not see it (as a step down). This is the biggest challenge I have in me throughout my career, sporting at least. To build a team that was worst last year to a team that will win the MLS within two years. It feels very special,'' Backe told Offside. "Here, with Erik Soler as much as I respect my boss, I have the security and organization behind me that you need to succeed as a coach. There are 79 employees of the club and I have Juan, a guy who is my assistant staff. He helps me with everything.''

Backe admitted that he may take some time to assimilate to MLS after spending his entire playing and coaching career in Europe (besides his stint as Mexico assistant) but feels he will achieve success in New York.

"Red Bull is my thing now. It feels really good and I'll bring it here no matter what shows up. Two years on my contract. Perhaps it takes a year before I can MLS and all the rules here, but during my second year, when I had time for me to build my team, then New York to win the MLS. So it is just," he added.

"I am a bit grumpy of me and have decided to show that it is possible to come here and change. Media here in the U.S., once they devote any space in the local rag about "soccer", has already started down that no foreigners succeed as a coach in MLS and that I will not be any exception. It would have been nice to prove the contrary.''
