New York Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese has admitted he would love to sign Spanish legend Raul.

The 36-year old striker, currently with Qatari club Al Sadd, has emerged as a potential transfer target for the Cosmos who won the 2013 North American Soccer League title in their debut season.

"If you told me I could sign a forward now, I would love to bring in Raul, because of what he represents as a person – with his professionalism, commitment and ability,” said Savarese.

“He's exactly the type of person we want at the club.”

Raul made his name with Real Madrid between 1994 and 2010 and the Spain national team between 1996 and 2006, winning six La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League titles and one UEFA Super Cup.

Raul, who joined German club Schalke in 2010 before moving to Qatar in May 2012, would link up former La Liga star Marcos Senna (of Villarreal fame) if he were to join the Cosmos.
