New York Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese is excited with the arrival of Real Madrid legend Raul.
Raul's arrival was confirmed this week.
Savarese said: "We are extremely excited to add to our roster, our club and our future a player like Raúl. He has been an example, in every sense of the word, throughout his career. Yesterday marked his 20th anniversary as a professional, and adding him to The New York Cosmos is a huge step towards where we want to be.
"There are so many things you can say about a player of his caliber. He has done so many great things in the past. He does so much as a competitor and as a person. As a competitor, he's always aiming for perfection. Everywhere he's been, he's pushed the clubs and teams to be at the maximum level. He will come and do the same here. We are very excited that he has decided to join us.
"From our standpoint, as a player we know what he brings - the quality of player that he is. We know what he has done and what he is going to be able to contribute to us. But also, he is a person that is a competitor and sets a great example. He is still hungry to achieve things. He has a passion for the sport like he's still a little kid. So that's why he decided he wanted to be with us. From his standpoint, he saw the club and liked our philosophy about soccer. He felt very much like we're a family-oriented club. He saw a lot of positives. He sees that we are growing step by step."
