New York coach Backe targeting midfielders
New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe is hoping he can bring in some quality midfielders before the 2010 MLS season kicks off.
Even though they have added Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere to the playing roster, Backe has identified that more quality is required when going forward from midfield.
“We need some creative, established, top-class players for the midfield position that can control the game to make a difference who can feed the strikers, who knows the game the style of play we want,'' Backe said.
Erik Soler, Red Bulls sporting director echoed the coach’s sentiments.
“We are searching for an experienced guy with that character, which I think the team needs, someone who can really game after game control the situation for us, if you are under pressure,'' Soler said. "I don’t think we have that kind of player at the moment, so that’s something we are looking for.
“We are reasonably confident we can get something going before the opener, but football is full of surprises, good ones and bad ones. But we are working on that right at the moment and hope to be able to do something quickly…”
