New York City lining up Roma's Borriello

AS Roma striker Marco Borriello is being heavily linked with a possible move to MLS expansion New York City FC.

The 32-year old Italian, who is under contract with the Giallorossi until next summer, is finding it difficult to gain regular game time under Rudi Garcia and could be on his way out at the Stadio Olimpico.

IBTimes reports that New York City has emerged as a potential destination for Borriello but the fact they have already signed David Villa and Frank Lampard made make it tricky for him to fit into their salary cap.

Borriello has struggled at Roma in recent times and has subsequently spent time on loan with Juventus, Genoa and West Ham United since 2012.

The former AC Milan attacker has been with the capital club since 2010 and has scored 18 goals in 65 appearances in all competitions.
