New York City FC to remain patient in stadium search

New York City FC chief business officer Tim Pernetti has revealed that the MLS expansion franchise will take it's time in finding a permanent home stadium.

The competition's 20th side will enter MLS play in 2015 and will spend at least their first season sharing the famous Yankee Stadium with Major League baseball's New York Yankees.

An announcement this week revealed that NYCFC - which is part-owned by the Yankees and English club Manchester City - will move into the five boroughs for the initial stages of their existence before finding a more suitable soccer-specific stadium down the track.

"We're going to build a soccer-specific stadium in New York City," Pernetti said at a press conference.

"We're going to take whatever time is necessary to get it right.

"The beauty of building a franchise is that the fans are excited. People in New York are pumped up that this thing is coming. [It's] like this is a movie premiere in New York City. It's coming in 2015.

"Our goal is to be in a soccer-specific building as soon as possible. At the same time, we're not going to create artificial deadlines based on pressure that comes in different directions in order to do it the right way.

"We're only going to get one shot to do it, so we're going to take the time necessary to get it there."
