New West Ham owners keen on bringing in strikers

New West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan are keen to bring in two new strikers to improve the team's goalscoring record.

The Hammers have scored 28 times in 21 outings this season but the new hierarchy are keen to improve that especially after an injury to key striker Carlton Cole and Gold confirmed the search was on for new hitmen.

"It is not true we are looking for one striker, we are looking for two," Gold told Sky Sports News.

"But we accept that after only 11 days since we secured the club, and only six or seven days to go, we will be happy to settle for one.

"But what we have done is put many irons in the fire and hope we can produce before the window closes.

"I am very keen on any striker that can score goals, and that can take West Ham United away from the relegation zone."

Gold admitted it was safer to keep options open as deals often fall over at the last minute.

"In the past you go for one player that you really want and set your sights on one player and you're confident you have secured a deal and then at the eleventh hour it fails, and we are making sure that doesn't happen on this occasion," he added.

"I can't be specific because if we say we are going for one and get somebody else it looks like we are playing games but I would hate for anyone to think that."

It is believed Benni McCarthy, Benjani and Juan Carlos Menseguez are all being looked at by West Ham.
