Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin has revealed that he had coveted the Watford job even whilst the club were in the Championship, reports the London Evening Standard.
Guidolin enjoyed his greatest success at Udinese, owned along with Watford and Spanish side Granada by the Pozzo family.
The 60-year-old departed the Stadio Friuli in 2014 but continued to have a close relationship with the Pozzos, serving them as a technical supervisor with a brief that stretched across the three clubs.
However the new man at the Liberty Stadium remained eager to get back into management and asked to be considered for a role at Watford.
"I think I did some great work at Udinese," Guidolin told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I let them know that I would have liked to work at Watford, even in the Championship, but other managers were hired. Given their results, which includes promotion and their good form in the Premier League, they made the right decision.
"I can only repeat that I would have liked to work there, but this is how things played out and I accept it."
