New signing Jefferson Montero impressed by Swansea

Swansea City have signed Ecuadorian winger Jefferson Montero.

The 24-year old has joined the Swans on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Mexican side Morelia and was delighted to commit himself to the south Wales outfit.

"I was impressed by Swansea when I played against them in a friendly while I was at Betis," Montero told www.swanseacity.net.

"Their style is very attractive and (Manchester United's) Antonio Valencia also spoke very well about the team - he said they are always a tough team to play against. We've spoken recently and we joked about Swansea and Manchester United playing in the first game. So that will be an interesting match for us.

"He also told me how great the league is. Every single game is very competitive, and I'm really looking forward to playing in it. I've played in La Liga and in Mexico, but now I am in the Premier League - the best in the world - and I want to thank Swansea for giving me this opportunity."

Montero kicked off his career with homeland club Emelec in 2007 before moving to Independiente and then on to Spain's Villarreal in 2010.

Since then, the 43-time capped Ecuadorian international, has spent time on loan with Levante and Real Betis, before making his way to Morelia in 2012.

Montero becomes Swansea's sixth signing this summer, following Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, French striker Bafetimbi Gomis, Dutch attacker Marvin Emnes and Stephen Kingsley from Falkirk.
