Reading's newly-appointed chief of scouting and recruitment Steve Head says they're determined to shake up their recruiting methods.
Head has more 20 years of Premier League experience with Fulham and Southampton under his belt.
"The thing I like is that my job involves scouting players from non- league and upwards," he explained to the Reading Chronicle. "Reading have been particularly successful in that field with players like Kevin Doyle and Shane Long who no-one had ever heard of before they came here.
"I really like that kind of stuff and we've got to keep that going. Saying that, we've also got to recognise this is the Premier League now and we will be working on a lot of other targets across all European leagues.
"The most important thing, however, is that any player we bring in has to be better than what we've already got.
"We've started the process already and are busy planning things. I don't want to tell the world what we're doing but myself, Nick Hammond and Steve Shorey will be busy over the next few weeks. My air miles will go through the roof."
