Brian McDermott believes Reading's fans will have a significant impact in helping them avoid relegation. The Royals are currently 23rd in the Championship and four points off safety, however, McDermott insists Reading can start a winning run if the fans get behind them like they did in the FA Cup win over Burnley.

"The fans were really important against Burnley last week and if we can give them something to cheer about then they will get behind us," McDermott told the Reading Evening Post.

"They are fabulous fans to play for, even if it is going poorly they don't get on the players' backs.

"All that I would ask them for is to give the players 100-per-cent support because it means a lot to them."
