Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester City's best piece of business this summer has been re-signing manager Manuel Pellegrini, despite the Premier League leaders spending in excess of £150million during the transfer window.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said the security of a new contract allowed Pellegrini to get the best out of his squad during City's undefeated start to their 2015/16 campaign.
"As a manager, if you are not sure you're going to be in the job next season, then it can feel like you're naked in the dressing room. If the players sense it, then you are a dead man walking," Redknapp explained.
"So for City to give Pellegrini a new deal, despite criticism last season and continued speculation about Pep Guardiola, was a brilliant move. Any questions the players had were immediately answered and they could get their heads down and play for Pellegrini."
