Michael Carrick says that he is at the best place to learn more about coaching.
Carrick hung up his playing boots at the end of the season, ending a playing association with United that lasted more than a decade.
But he will continue his relationship with the club as a coach, joining manager Jose Mourinho's first team staff.
And Carrick believes there is much that he can learn in his new job.
"It's a big challenge, the same routine in many ways but a different role," he said to Sky Sports.
"I'm looking forward to it, I'm really excited, I'm well aware that just because you're a half-decent player it doesn't mean you're going to be the same as a coach.
"I've got to put in the work, have to learn, start from scratch, and I've got the best man to learn from in Jose. I'm really looking forward to it."
