New Manchester City signing Philippe Sandler isn't expected to see action this year, it has been revealed.

Sandler's move from PEC Zwolle was announced by City yesterday, with the young defender moving to England for a club record €2.5m.

However, De Stentor reports he joins City recovering from knee surgery which he underwent in Barcelona on orders from City.

Sandler collected the injury in his last game for PEC against AZ, with the seriousness of the setback only being discovered later in the year.

He has since had surgery in Barcelona and now isn't expected to see action again for another six months.
