New Kilmarnock boss Shiels makes Sheffield Wednesday's Heffernan first signing

Kilmarnock today appointed Kenny Shiels as its new manager and he wasted no time in making an immediate signing.

The new Killie boss has brought in 29-year old striker Paul Heffernan from Sheffield Wednesday after he had his contract with the Owls canceled.

Shiels feels the ex-Notts County and Doncaster Rovers man will be a great replacement for Conor Sammon who left Rugby Park for Wigan Athletic in January.

"I feel since we lost Connor Sammon in January we took a lot of goals out of the team," he said on Sky Sports News.

"I'm looking for people who can supply and finish and Paul Heffernan comes into the finishing department.

"He's a really good finisher. He needs a good run in the team.

"I've seen him play for Doncaster and Notts County. He's a fantastic finisher and fits in with how we play."
