After making a number of new signings during the off-season, Beijing Guoan coach Hong Yuanshuo is expecting plenty of improvement out of his squad.
Ahead of tonight's opening Asian Champions League group stage match against A-League club Melbourne Victory at the Beijing Workers Stadium, Yuanshuo is set to unveil new recruits Maurice Ross (from Aberdeen), Erivaldo Antonio Saraiva (Zhejiang Lucheng) and local players Xu Liang, Wang Xiaolong and Wu Hao who he believes will add plenty of depth to his playing list.
"After making a number of new signings, a competitive side has been formed," Hong said.
"We need them to perform in the AFC Champions League and bring some pleasant surprises to the fans and the club.
"This season will prove to be a stern test for Beijing. The players must find their form as early as possible to meet the challenges.
"We are a stronger side this year and I think we have got more powerful weapons to fight against other Asian powerhouses," Hong added.
"My side is definitely able to achieve good results in both the domestic league and the continental tournament this season."
