New Hull academy chief Pugh: Fans want to see locals make it

Hull City's new academy chief Daral Pugh has big plans for the Premier League club.

Filling the void left by Neil Mann, who departed the club after two decades of service last month, Pugh has joined Billy Russell in the nerve centre of the Tigers' County Road North Academy.

"Most supporters love to see it, having a local lad out there playing for his hometown team," former Leeds United youth chief Pugh told the Hull Daily Mail.

"That's becoming increasingly difficult for any football club because there are short-term demands put on managers, but it's still great to see.

"Someone like Fabian Delph playing for Aston Villa in the Premier League, that's my reward. But you're always looking for the next one, that's the nature of this job.

"The biggest challenge we have is that it's going to be harder for these lads than ever to force their way into the first team. These lads have got to step into a Premier League side. That is the hardest thing now."
