New Hibernian keeper targets No.1 jersey
Hibernian stopper Graeme Smith is confident he can claim the No.1 spot at the club following his arrival.
The 26-year-old returned to the Scottish Premier League on Friday from League One side Brighton, after playing only a handful of games for the Seagulls.
The former Motherwell stalwart is looking to challenge Graham Stack and Yves Ma-Kalambay for a permanent spot between the sticks at Easter Road, after a disappointing spell in England.
"I am here to challenge Graham and Yves for the No.1 jersey," he said in the Daily Record.
"I'm delighted to be here after Brighton. I last played against Charlton four weeks ago and only let in two that day.
"I just got back into the team under Russell Slade then he was sacked and new manager Gus Poyet went with the other keeper, Michel Kuipers, because he knew him.
"Hopefully Hibs will be a great platform for me. I would not rule out going back to England one day but I have landed on my feet only six months after I left Scotland.
"I am happy at Hibs - this is a better club than Brighton with better facilities. The infrastructure is as good as the big two in Scotland."
