New FC Twente coach McClaren admits he's now "less trusting"

New FC Twente coach Steve McClaren admits his experience as England manager has changed him.

McClaren said: "I have become harder and less trusting of people in the last two years and maybe that's a lesson I had to learn.

"Having coped with that I can cope with anything.

"England was one of those things which didn't work out but I'm 47 and have a lot of years ahead - this is a new challenge and who knows where it might lead?

"But I have never been bitter about the experience."

McClaren's first competitive match in charge of Dutch side Twente could be against Liverpool or Arsenal in the Champions League qualifying round.

He added: "One of my ambitions was to further my coaching education abroad.

"So far I've been quite pleased by the response.

"Sir Bobby Robson said 'The culture here is fantastic, the people are good, the football is good. You may even like the Press!' That I've yet to see."
