Jermaine Jones admits he could 'have some fun' playing as a centre-back for the USA national team in the next few years of his career.
The 32-year old New England Revolution midfielder was dropped back to partner Matt Besler in central defence by Juergen Klinsmann in Tuesday night's 1-1 friendly draw with Honduras and performed admirably in his non-customary role.
The former Schalke star was slightly tentative prior to being deployed at the back but believes it could be a position he becomes accustomed to as his legs begin to age.
"I am always open to some ideas," Jones said. "I know Juergen Klinsmann now for a long time, and he sometimes has some crazy ideas, and he asked me and at first I was a bit [hesitant].
"But I have no problem with that, the position is OK, and maybe I'll have some fun in the next few years."
Jones added: "I think this position is one of the easiest positions on the field, if you have experience and you can read the game a little bit and you are physical.
"And I have no problem to battle in games. That position is easier to play than playing number six."
