New England Revolution unveil ex-Reading, Bristol City midfielder Cisse

New England Revolution have officially announced the signing of Kalifa Cisse as a free agent.

The 28-year old French-born Malian defensive midfielder, who can also play in central defense, joined the Revs on Monday after departing Bristol City in July this year.

Revs general manager Michael Burns is expecting big things from Cisse who he feels can bring a lot of physicality to the team for the 2013 MLS season.

"He's a big, strong player," Burns told MLSsoccer.

"He can win balls. He's technical. He complements our current group and gives us something in the midfield that we might not have at the moment.

"We were glad that we were able to get a deal done with him. I think it actually helped him and us that he was over here for some time to see everything. I think it helped to get the deal done."

Cisse, who trialled with Bolton during the summer, kicked off his career with Portuguese club Estoril in 2004 after coming through the Toulouse youth academy. After his stint with Estoril he joined Boavista before moving to Reading in 2007 where he spent three seasons prior to his Bristol City move.
