New England Revolution striker Taylor Twellman has retired from professional soccer.
The 30-year old has decided to pull the pin on an attempted comeback from serious concussion issues which have kept him out of the game for the past two or so years.
Twellman was involved in an on-pitch collision while scoring a goal in a game against the LA Galaxy in 2008 and has dealt with head issues ever since which have eventually forced him into premature retirement.
"Taylor Twellman has been the face of the Revolution since joining us in 2002," Revolution Investor/Operator Robert K. Kraft said. "His heart, grit and determination have been a model for other players, and he's played a tremendous role in establishing a new standard of success and consistency for not only our team, but also around the league. Taylor was a dynamic player who for nine years was the most prolific scorer in the MLS."
Twellman finishes his career with 101 goals in 174 MLs matches, making him the fifth-highest scorer in the league's history.
