New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston has been named the 2013 MLS Comeback Player of the Year.
The 25-year old was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in April, a rare but treatable form of leukemia, but managed to return to MLS action in late July which prompted majority votes from media, MLS players and MLS club management.
Alston, who was able to appear nine times for the Revs in 2013, beat Philadelphia Union's Conor Casey, Seattle Sounders' Lamar Neagle and Portland Timbers' Donovan Ricketts to the prize.
Alston joins other award-winning teammates Jose Goncalves and Matt Reis who were named the MLS Defender of the Year and MLS WORKS Humanitarian of the Year respectively.
