New England Revolution confident Goncalves will remain

New England Revolution general manager Michael Burns is supremely confident that Jackson Goncalves is happy at the club.

The 28-year old Portuguese native, who was the MLS Defender of the Year in 2013, was back in the Revs line-up after missing last week's 1-0 loss to Philadelphia Union because of a reported contract dispute.

Goncalves captained the side as they drew 0-0 with the Vancouver Whitecaps on the weekend and his performance suggested to Burns that he is keen to remain with the Massachusetts club.

"There were many conversations that took place and we feel that we're all in a much better spot now," Burns said.

"We think he's very happy [in New England] and we hope he's very happy and we hope he's going to be here for a while."

He added: "Sometimes you need to work through some things and get back to a better place.

"We feel that we're back there and he is back to the Jose that we know and we are used to. For us, it's in the past and we move on."

Goncalves put aside his apparent differences to produce a solid display in central defence but suggested that the reported disruption had been built up to something bigger than what it actually was.

"I did my job all week and I try to be a professional every day," Goncalves said. "All of the stuff outside, it can be a lot of speculation."
