New Catania coach Sinisa Mihajlovic insists they can still beat the drop.
The Serb, who replaces Gianluca Atzori, insists being four points from safety is no impossible hurdle.
"I am more pumped than emotional and it's right that it's this way," Mihajlovic said.
"I would like to once again thank Pietro Lo Monaco and the club for having given me this chance to continue my work and I am convinced that this team does not deserve its place in the table.
"I have watched all the games. I am calm. Today we have nine points, but a couple of victories will be enough for us to climb up the standings just as a couple of negative results will be enough for other teams to slide down.
"I feel it's only right to salute Atzori to whom goes our recognition for the work he has done and the way he has done it. Unfortunately the results did not reflect the quality of his work.
"We are not orientated around any old person, but on a trainer who has great experience as a player who also wants to make his own way.
"We believe in survival."
