New Cesena coach Giampaolo admits Roma approach

New Cesena coach Marco Giampaolo admits he fielded an approach from AS Roma.

It was feared his move to Cesena would collapse due to Roma's interference.

"The truth is they wanted to know about Luis Enrique," explained Giampaolo. "In the last six months I spent time at Barcelona and watched many of Luis Enrique's training sessions. It had nothing to do with me breaking my agreement with Cesena."

Giampaolo was fired by Catania mid-season and returns to Serie A with one of the surprise outfits, as Cesena avoided relegation by playing an all-attack 4-3-3 system.

"I am very happy to be here and hope to repay the faith shown in me so Cesena can appreciate me as a Coach and a man.

"Last season Cesena and Lecce sent an important signal to Serie A by going against the belief you must be defensive to survive.

"We will continue that approach, as our objective is to focus more on quality than physicality. Of course we need to find the right players and ensure they have that mentality."
