Celtic's latest signing Zheng Zhi is ineligible for the club's Europa League campaign. The China captain, who signed with the Hoops as a free agent, is awaiting a work permit to begin his career in Scotland.
The 29-year old will not be able to join his new teammates when they compete in Europe because the club were unable to register him with the Scottish Football Association in time.
UEFA notified the club that they had missed Tuesday's 11pm deadline to submit their squad for Europe meaning Zheng will miss the group stage of the competition.
But it was not all bad news according to Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.
"We were always aware he wouldn't be able to play in the group stage," he said.
"But it was never an issue for us and we'll be delighted to have him for our domestic games.
"Then he'll be available to play in Europe if we qualify from our group."
