New Blackburn signing plays in behind closed door friendly

United States midfielder Jermaine Jones has arrived at Blackburn Rovers on a season long loan from Schalke and will make his debut in a low key behind-closed-doors game on Wednesday. Rovers boss Steve Kean will then make a decision on the fitness levels of the 29 year old and whether he is in contention for the game at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Jones said: "We have a friendly game and I will play 45 minutes. I need to do well also in training. Then the coach will make a decision about Sunday.

"I am not thinking about staying here at this moment, only getting games and showing what I can do.

"I can only say thank you to Blackburn for taking me for six months. Then we will make a decision."

Jones international team-mate, Bolton's Stuart Holden, lauded both Blackburn and the Premier League.

"Stuart told me I needed to take the chance. He said Blackburn is a good club with good players, Jones revealed.

"I know every game in England is fast and physical. The players seem bigger and stronger here. They are very tough guys. Look at Christopher Samba.

"I want to play every game and that didn't happen at Schalke. Now I have a chance to play. I think being in England will suit my game. I am not scared."
