New Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti admits he fancies the England job.

Ancelotti cannot hide his desire to manage England and, hopefully, work with a player he has always respected and admired, Wayne Rooney.

The former Chelsea manager, asked if he would ever be interested in managing England, said: “At this moment I would prefer to have a club. But maybe in the future.

England? Why not? I would have no problem doing that."

Ancelotti has a genuine love of English football, revealing that he came agonisingly close to snapping up Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard when he managed AC Milan.

He added: “I tried to sign Steven from Liverpool but it just wasn't possible."
