Gary Neville did not feature for Manchester United's reserves on Thursday night as part of his comeback bid.

The England full-back, who suffered ankle ligament damage against Bolton in March, had been set to play against league leaders Sunderland, but has not taken a place in Brian McClair and Jim Ryan's squad.

A spokesperson told the club's official website: "Gary has been training with the first team and will continue with that as opposed to playing with the reserves."
