Neville: Everton had enough chances to win

Everton captain Phil Neville blamed bad luck for their UEFA Cup penalty shootout elimination by Fiorentina.

Goals from Andrew Johnson and Mikel Arteta took the game to extra-time and then penalties after the Toffees' 2-0 first-leg defeat.

But spot-kick misses from Ayegbeni Yakubu and Phil Jagielka cost the Premier League side a place in the quarter-finals as the Italians progressed 4-2 in the shootout.

"That's football - sometimes you don't get your just desserts," Neville told ITV4.

"We created enough chances to win two or three games."

But Neville insisted there were plenty of positives to take into the remainder of the season as Everton chase fourth place in the Premier League.

"There's nine games to go and plenty of points to play for," he added.

"Last week (after the first leg) there was lots of criticism and I didn't think it was justified.

"Tonight we proved we're a good team. The luck just wasn't with us."
