Now he's looking forward to pre-season training which begins next Wednesday and his declared aim is to win back the right-back position from Wes Brown.

"Pre-season is hugely important for every player but for me this season it is massive," said Neville.

"I need to get a good pre- season under my belt. I am looking forward to it. It is a great challenge.

"It is a big challenge every season at United but it is a greater one more than ever this time to try and repeat the success of last season as a team.

"For me, personally, I have to get back and try and break into a team that has won the double. That is hard enough."
