Alessandro Nesta is keen to discuss a new contract with AC Milan.
The veteran defender will be out of contract in June and there were recent reports that he would be heading out of San Siro.
"I want to carry on playing, for at least another year, but it just doesn't depend on what I want," he said.
"I need to see what the club's intentions are, but I want to stay, I want to continue my playing career."
Although the former Lazio captain has no intention of retiring just yet, he has warned fans that he won't last as long as Paolo Maldini.
"Paolo quit at the age of 41, I'll be 35 in March and I'm all broken," said the veteran who has had to deal with back problems in recent times.
"I am in good shape at the minute though, even if I am playing three games a week. This isn't a problem for me and I'm doing this happily.
"We'll see how I feel in March and then decide what to do."
