Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen wants to see New Zealand join Australia in the Asian Football Confederation. Currently part of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), the All Whites do not play many competitive matches.
"I think it's good. I would love to be in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). I think we want to be part of it," Nelsen told Goal.com.
"I think probably the Asian teams are not too keen because we beat Bahrain (in the 2010 World Cup play-off). It was the fifth Asian place (at the World Cup)."
The 33-year-old pointed out that the Asian teams would find it tough to beat the All Whites due to the rigours of travel to and playing in New Zealand.
"For the Asian teams, it's a lot of travelling to do to go down to New Zealand. It's cold and rainy and we enjoy those conditions. We back ourselves. So I don't think (it shall affect our chances of being at the World Cup)," he said.
"I think it's more the Asian teams who are more worried about us coming to Asia."
