Neill keen to give back to game by funding new club

West Ham United and Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill is keen to put back into the game that has given him so much. Revealing the key factors behind his desire to fund an A-League club in West Sydney, Neill told The World Game, "I've been fortunate and had so many good things that it's time to start passing it on.

"It is all about giving back and this is the biggest impact I could have - to build a club. There are 1.9 million people in western Sydney; it is the supposed heartland of football in Australia; 200 of Australia's largest companies are based in the area. It all makes sense.

"Being a Sydney boy, I thought it would be good to start a legacy and start at the top and work my way back down to the grassroots. I want to build a structure and inspire the young people of Australia, give them something to dream about, give them some heroes that they want to emulate.

"If you can inspire kids to play football and go and watch the A-League then the future of Australian football will become stronger. The ultimate goal is to play for Australia and get Australia competing in a World Cup all the time. These little things build the foundation."
