Neill excited about Everton future

Lucas Neill is excited to have finally found the right club in Everton.

The Australian international signed with the Toffees on a one-year deal in September and is looking forward to breaking into the first team.

Neill is currently in Melbourne on international duty and yesterday told a press conference for the Asian Cup qualifier with Oman that he was excited about the prospect of becoming a regular Everton player but wanted to focus on the Socceroos first.

"I'm delighted to have signed for Everton. (It's) a great club, really excited, (I have) a lot of respect," Neill said.

"Whilst here now my focus is only on the Socceroos and I was really happy to have played 90 minutes in the game the other night (against Holland). It was a great challenge, a great team, perfect for coming into this game.

"Not playing for the Socceroos in the last two games and having to watch was hard to take but I'm really happy to be back involved and I'm going to train as hard as I can and play for as long as I can whilst here to give me the confidence and as much match-time to take back into my Everton squad and break into that team. It will be beneficial for me, for Everton and for the national team."

Despite not playing regular first team football for a number of months, the 31-year old said he was almost at his peak of fitness.

"I'm fit, I feel great. I've been fit for 3 months," he added.

"I've looked after myself and I have had great support from Darren Burgess, (from) the manager and a close knit community of people around me to make sure when the time was right I would be fit.

"I feel great, I actually think the extra time that I didn't play has done my body the world of good."
