National Youth League - Round 12 wrap

Only two matches were played in the National Youth League this weekend and Sydney FC once again stamped their authority on the league. An undermanned Sky Blues outfit overcame the Central Coast Mariners 3-1 to remain nine points clear on top of the table.

Goals to Zach Cairncross, Sam Munro and Kofi Danning cancelled out Greg Owens 29th minute equaliser, sending the Mariners to second bottom.

In the other match, Queensland Roar came from behind twice and eventually snatched a victory over the Newcastle Jets at Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane.

Ben Martin opened for the Jets in the 43rd minute but Roar's Matthew Mundy was quick to answer just a minute after half-time.

The Jets went ahead once again through Adrian Karakolevski on the hour-mark but again it was a short-lived lead as Tim Smits levelled six minutes later.

A draw was looking like the fitting result until a late own goal from Antun Kovacic put the Roar a point clear in second place on the table.

The Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United clash was moved to late January, tying in with the Reds being in Japan for the Club World Cup.
