National Youth League gaining momentum

The A-League's youth competition completed its third round on the weekend in another successful step forward for the burgeoning league. Three games were played in the National Youth League with many regular first team players gaining valuable game time as the senior competition had the week off. In Sydney, Adelaide United went down to Sydney FC 2-1 with goals for the winners coming from Sean Rooney and Kerim Bulut as Mitchell Prentice played a full 90 minutes in his bid to return to the senior squad. The Central Coast Mariners notched up their first win of the season over the Melbourne Victory thanks to some good form by first team regulars. Striker Dylan Macallister and defender David D'Apuzzo confirmed the win after conceding a goal to the Victory in the 15th minute and in Queensland, the Roar comfortably defeated the Newcastle Jets 3-0 thanks to a Chris Grossman double. After three rounds, there is a logjam at the top of the table with Queensland, Perth Glory and Sydney FC all on six points followed by Adelaide United, Central Coast, Newcastle and the winless Melbourne Victory.
