Narrow Wigan win was wake-up call we needed - Man City's Richards

Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes the 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night has given the players a wake-up call for the FA Cup final next month.

The reigning Premier League champions face off with the Latics at Wembley on May 11 but returning right-back Richards knows they will have to improve drastically on the shaky performance they served up at the Etihad Stadium last night if they want to achieve FA Cup glory for a second time in three years.

"It has given us a wake-up call," he said. "I think they were better than the whole team expected. They seem to know that system inside out.

"There were runners coming from everywhere. We will learn from that and make sure we are ready for the final."
