Napoli insist Marek Hamsik is not for sale and would be 'up in arms', if the midfielder's agents were touting him to Liverpool.
Hamsik was even rumoured to have travelled to Merseyside to discuss a contract only to dismiss the speculation as 'absolute nonsense'.
He is considered a key part of Napoli's future plans and director of sport Pierpaolo Marino is not prepared to countenance Hamsik's departure.
"Napoli chose a bunch of motivated lads," Marino told the Italian media. "We knew they would give their all and they have not disappointed.
"Among these, Hamsik is unsellable. The club are trying to get in touch with his agents because we would be up in arms if they are attempting to sell him.
"We will not exchange him, nor will we accept any figure for his services.
"He is central to our plans for next season."
