Napoli midfielder Christian Maggio has confirmed hopes of penning a new contract.

Maggio is with the Italy squad this week.

He said: "As for myself, I am happy that at the age of 29 I can still play at the top level. Napoli have beaten some big clubs, but it's too early to talk about us as Scudetto contenders. It's going to be very difficult to win the title.

"I hope to renew my contract, as I've an idea in my head of ending my career wearing this jersey."
